As we celebrate Recycle Week 2023 (October 16th-22nd), we celebrate our most exciting recycled and recyclable materials, helping you shop smarter when it comes to outdoor furniture. Plus, as this year’s Recycle Week focuses on ‘missed capture’, with things around the home you may not know you can recycle, this is just a gentle reminder that you can, in fact, recycle most of the items in our showstopping collections.
This award-winning recycled plastic innovation kickstarted our journey of cleaning up ocean plastic. DuraOcean® is made from recycled maritime plastic, with just one Nassau DuraOcean® chair recycling as much as 3.5kg of maritime waste and fishing ropes that would otherwise end up polluting our oceans. Used across our Nassau and Panama Dark collections, this groundbreaking, maintenance-free material is also 100% recyclable, meaning chairs and tables made from DuraOcean® can be disassembled and recycled at the end of their life.
Another groundbreaking recycled plastic innovation, Social Plastic® has enormous social benefits, helping to tackle plastic pollution and lift people out of poverty at the same time. LifestyleGarden® proudly partnered with Plastic Bank to produce furniture made from Social Plastic, a recycled material made from plastic waste that has been collected from the world’s waterways. The extra layer to this is that the initiative ultimately gives plastic waste a value, with the locals who collect discarded plastic able to exchange it at Plastic Bank recycling centres for premiums to cover family essentials, such as groceries, health insurance, school tuition, health insurance, cooking fuel and more. Another bonus is that this incredible material – like DuraOcean® – feeds into a circular economy and can be recycled again at the end of its life. Find Social Plastic in an array of colours in our stunning Nassau collection.
If wicker-style furniture is your style, then Petan® is the recyclable material for you. Not only is it extremely hardwearing, like all of our materials, providing fantastic longevity and helping to minimise waste, it is also 100% recyclable at the end of its life. Unlike some other synthetic weave furniture on the market, Petan® is free from harmful chemicals and heavy metals, and made with responsible colour additives, ensuring it can be recycled at the end of its life without detriment to the environment. Find this tactile and durable material handwoven in a variety of colourways across our Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Haiti, and Samoa collections.
You wouldn’t think twice about recycling an aluminium can or tin but did you ever stop think about recycling aluminium furniture? The robust, rust-free aluminium we use for our products, as well as its Duracoat® protection, is manufactured in an ethical way, ensuring all aluminium components in our furniture can easily be recycled again, rather than being sent to landfill. It won’t be for some time though, as the aluminium we select for our furniture is commonly used for boatbuilding and water-sensitive shore applications. Team that with Duracoat®, which provides unparalleled protection from the elements and UV resistance, and you have furniture that won’t be going anywhere anytime soon
Another maintenance-free, hardworking material that you might not believe can be recycled; Olefin® is used to create stunning, high-performance cushions and stylish, hardwearing rope furniture. Strong Olefin yarn is handwoven to create sumptuous rope for luxurious, supportive furniture that requires zero maintenance, and is also used to create premium cushions in a variety of colours and weaves that are resistant to stains, abrasions, sunlight, fire and chemicals. Olefin® may be tough enough to withstand extreme weather, regular use, and spillages but it can also be fully recycled. Enjoy this material in a number of our collections, including Amber, Opal, and Topaz.
At LifestyleGarden®, we utilise innovative, ethically produced materials and embrace thoughtful designs that enable as much of each piece of furniture as possible to be recycled at the end of its life. It is important to us to minimise waste.
